Last minute Obama foreign policy push- What’s the game plan?

Obama has been bullish on Russia the last few weeks, claiming (without conclusive evidence) that the state of Russia was responsible for the cyber attacks against the DNC.

This is coming in the last few weeks of the Obama Administration’s time in the Oval Office, and is likely to be undone rather quickly once Trump get’s into office.

We all remember just a few years ago when Obama made fun of Mitt Romney for his claim that Russia was the United States’ #1 geopolitical foe, as well as Obama’s lack of engagement when Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine.

This raises the question: Why would Obama choose now, just two weeks before the transfer of power to the Trump Administration, to take a hard stance on Russia? Especially when there is a set precedent of weakness from the Obama Whitehouse on dealing with issues regarding Russia?
